Phosphatidylserine for Memory: What to Know
Phosphatidylserine for memory is a popular claim, because the fat-like compound appears in many brain products. Neuriva Original lists 100 mg per capsule. We found no review in our sources showing that it protects memory, and NIH finds no supplement with conclusive proof. Synaptril does not contain it.

The ingredient01
What is phosphatidylserine?
Phosphatidylserine is a fat-like compound sold in capsules for memory and focus. It is not a vitamin or a mineral.
It turns up in several branded blends. Our label reading found it in Neuriva, Alpha BRAIN, Dynamic Brain and Focus Factor, usually next to other ingredients.
That crowd is a problem for evidence. When four or five ingredients share a capsule, a result cannot be credited to one of them.
On labels02
Which products list phosphatidylserine?
Neuriva Original is the only one we read that shows a clear amount: 100 mg per capsule, next to coffee fruit extract (Neuriva Original label (Schiff)).
| Product | Amount of phosphatidylserine |
|---|---|
| Neuriva Original | 100 mg per capsule (Neuriva Original label (Schiff)) |
| Alpha BRAIN | Not published (inside a 650 mg blend) (Onnit, Alpha BRAIN) |
| Dynamic Brain | Not published (inside a 745 mg blend) |
| Focus Factor | Not published (inside a 640 mg blend) |
| Synaptril | Not an ingredient |
Retailer label copies read October 18, 2026. Neuriva contains soy.
The evidence03
Does phosphatidylserine help memory?
We cannot say that it does. NIH found no supplement with conclusive evidence against cognitive decline (NCCIH, Supplements and cognition), and AARP's brain council backs none (AARP GCBH, Brain health supplements).
Some sources mention a limited FDA qualified claim for phosphatidylserine. We did not review that wording for this post, so read it on FDA's site before you rely on it. A qualified claim is also not an approval, since FDA does not approve supplements (FDA, Dietary supplements Q and A).
The Neuriva label notes soy. If you take any supplement with prescribed medicine, keep taking the medicine and ask your pharmacist about interactions (NIH ODS, Supplements: What to know).

Is phosphatidylserine in Synaptril?
No. Synaptril lists magnesium glycinate, alpha lipoic acid, butcher's broom, L-carnitine, turmeric and CoQ10, and nothing else active.
That makes it a different bet from a phosphatidylserine product. Read the full panel on the Supplement Facts page and see who it suits on who it is for.
Before you buy05
What should you do about memory worries first?
See a doctor for new or worsening memory problems. Many causes are treatable, including low B12, some medicines and depression (MedlinePlus, Memory loss).
Normal aging brings slower recall, not dramatic loss. Our memory and aging guide sorts the two. For sudden confusion or one-sided weakness, call 911.
FAQ06
Phosphatidylserine questions
How much phosphatidylserine is in Neuriva Original?
The retailer label copy we read lists 100 mg of phosphatidylserine per capsule, plus 100 mg of coffee fruit extract. One capsule is the serving, 30 capsules to a bottle (Neuriva Original label (Schiff)). Labels can change, so check the bottle.
Is phosphatidylserine safe with prescribed medicine?
We have no source that rates its interactions, so ask your pharmacist. Supplements can interact with medicines even when natural (NIH ODS, Supplements: What to know). Keep taking any prescribed medicine and never swap it for a supplement.
Why do brain blends combine phosphatidylserine with other ingredients?
Makers often stack ingredients to cover several claims. The downside is that a result cannot be traced to one ingredient, and blend totals can hide amounts. Alpha BRAIN, for example, lists blends without single amounts (Onnit, Alpha BRAIN).
Does the FDA approve phosphatidylserine claims?
No. FDA does not approve supplements or their claims before sale, and makers must hold support for what they say (FDA, Dietary supplements Q and A). Any qualified health claim is a narrow, worded statement, so read its exact text on FDA's site.
Does Synaptril work like a phosphatidylserine supplement?
It is a different formula. Synaptril has no phosphatidylserine, and no study we cite shows it helps memory. Its label claim is quoted only as a claim: "Enhances Memory & Focus*", which FDA has not evaluated.
Who should skip a phosphatidylserine supplement?
Anyone allergic to soy should check labels, since Neuriva notes soy (Neuriva Original label (Schiff)). Pregnant or nursing people and anyone under 18 should ask a clinician first. If memory loss is new, see a doctor before buying anything.
