Synaptril Proprietary Blend: What 575 mg Means
The Synaptril proprietary blend is 575 mg of six ingredients whose single amounts are not printed. Because the ingredients are listed from most to least by weight, the ingredient in place k can hold at most 575 divided by k milligrams. The first, magnesium glycinate, likely takes most of it.

The short answer01
What is a proprietary blend on a supplement label?
A proprietary blend is a group of ingredients listed together with one total weight. The maker does not have to print each ingredient's amount.
US rules allow this. Ingredients without a Daily Value are listed in descending order of weight inside the blend (eCFR, 21 CFR 101.36). So order is the only clue left.
The Synaptril proprietary blend totals 575 mg per capsule and holds six ingredients. Magnesium is printed separately as 80 mg, but it comes "from proprietary blend", so it sits inside the 575 mg.
The math02
How much of each ingredient can the 575 mg hold?
The ingredient in place k can hold at most 575 divided by k milligrams. If the second held more than 288 mg, the first two together would pass 575 mg.
These are ceilings, not real amounts. Each ingredient can hold less, never more.
| Place | Ingredient | Ceiling (label order) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Magnesium glycinate | 575 mg |
| 2 | Alpha lipoic acid | 288 mg |
| 3 | Butcher's broom root extract | 192 mg |
| 4 | L-carnitine | 144 mg |
| 5 | Turmeric extract, 95% curcuminoids | 115 mg |
| 6 | Coenzyme Q10 (ubiquinone) | 96 mg |
A tighter bound03
Why does magnesium glycinate likely take most of the blend?
Magnesium glycinate is only about 14% magnesium by weight (Magnesium glycinate, Mg content), so 80 mg of magnesium needs about 570 mg of it. That is nearly all of the 575 mg.
Only about 8 mg would remain for the other five ingredients. Some grades are buffered with magnesium oxide and carry more magnesium per gram.
In a generous case of 20%, the glycinate weighs 400 mg and the other five share at most 175 mg. The 20% figure is an assumption, not a published number.
Even then, alpha lipoic acid could not exceed 175 mg, against 600 mg studied in small human work (Linus Pauling Institute, Lipoic acid). Curcumin was studied at 180 mg of a high-absorption form (Small 2018, Curcumin memory RCT), and Synaptril's turmeric cannot exceed 44 mg in that case.

What does the 575 mg capsule look like in both cases?
The bar shows how a 575 mg capsule splits at 14% and at 20% magnesium glycinate.
400 mgmagnesium glycinate, to supply the 80 mg of magnesium printed on the label
175 mgleft for alpha lipoic acid, butcher's broom, L-carnitine, turmeric and CoQ10 together
The capsule's blend weighs 575 mg. Pure magnesium glycinate is about 14% magnesium by weight; buffered versions mixed with magnesium oxide carry more (Magnesium glycinate, Mg content). The 20% case is a generous assumption, not a published figure. The label does not say which form is used, so this is arithmetic on the label, not a lab result.
Both cases are estimates from public magnesium content, not measured amounts.
What to do05
What can you do about a hidden blend?
Ask the distributor for the amounts and for a lab report, and compare with studied doses before you pay. A reply may take time, so ask before you buy.
- Write to [email protected] and ask for each ingredient's milligrams per capsule.
- Ask for a certificate of analysis for your lot. None is published.
- Treat anything you hear as unverified until it is in writing.
If you take prescribed medicine, keep taking it and ask your pharmacist about the six ingredients. See the Supplement Facts guide and the ingredient guide.
FAQ06
Synaptril proprietary blend questions
Is a proprietary blend illegal on a supplement?
No. US labeling rules permit a blend to show a total weight and list ingredients in descending order. The trade-off is that you lose the single doses, so you cannot check them against studied amounts.
Does 575 mg mean each Synaptril ingredient is 575 mg?
No. The 575 mg is the total for all six ingredients together, and magnesium is counted inside it. Each ingredient holds a share, and only the order of those shares is printed.
Can I tell which Synaptril ingredient is the biggest?
Yes, by order. Magnesium glycinate is listed first, so it holds the most by weight. Coenzyme Q10 is listed last and holds the least. The gaps between them are not printed.
Why is the 20% magnesium case called generous?
Pure magnesium glycinate is about 14% magnesium. A 20% grade would be richer, so the glycinate would weigh less and leave more room for the other five. We use it as the most favorable case.
Would a lab test reveal the real amounts?
A lab report could, if the lab tested your lot for each ingredient. No lab report is published for Synaptril. The lot references we know of are seller references, not proof of content.
Do other brain supplements use proprietary blends?
Many do, and some print every amount. Dynamic Brain, for example, lists a 745 mg proprietary blend beside printed vitamin amounts (Stonehenge Health, Dynamic Brain). Compare labels by what each one prints.
